Winner of the 2023 Reimagine Clean Energy Competition announced at the Science Museum, London

School children reimagine a clean energy future

Ceres, a global leader in fuel cell and electrochemical technology, announced the winner of the Reimagine 2023 Clean Energy Competition at the Science Museum in London this week.

The competition, sponsored and organised by Ceres in collaboration with STEM Learning UK, saw secondary school students from schools across the southeast of England, submit up to three minutes of animation explaining an exciting and original scientific concept relevant to the net-zero mission.

Successfully launched in 2022, the competition aims to inspire the next generation of innovators and creatives to tackle the global climate crisis and mission for net-zero.

The Reimagine expert judging panel, assessed entries on level of creativity; depth of research; and how far ideas can have an impact on climate change. Following another year of high quality and innovative submissions from students across the Southeast, Ceres is pleased to announce that Colchester County High School for Girls emerged as the 2023 Winner while St. Philip Howard Catholic School received the Best Scientific Research Award and Brighton Hill Community School secured the Best Animation category.

This year’s judging panel included:

  • Caroline Hargrove PhD, Chief Technology Officer, Ceres
  • Professor Dame Julia King, Baroness Brown of Cambridge, British engineer, Chair of STEM Learning UK and crossbench member of the House of Lords
  • Eman Martin-Vignerte, Director at Robert Bosch GmbH and Chair of CBI Southeast
  • Alex James, Siemens, Energy Education Outreach Manager, Siemens Energy new for 2023
  • Simon Ridge, Lead Animator Creative Assembly new for 2023

We were once again in awe at the quality of submissions we received this year – choosing a winner was very difficult. It is so encouraging to see the next generation’s talent and creativity when it comes to tackling the critical challenge of climate change; it gives us great hope for the future. We would like to extend our thanks and congratulations to everyone who took part this year, and we look forward to seeing the progress of our next generation of innovators, who will play such a crucial role as we make the societal transition to a greener future.
